belated blog from 7/7/09
Looking back to July 2nd when I became International Mr. Deaf Leather 2009. I feel fortunate to have won and hope to represent IDL (International Deaf Leather) well. I hope to break barriers and educate people about both deaf and leather communities.
During the contest I had fun and was also a little stressed. I was happy that my partner Court came with me and was very supportive. The minute I arrived to my hotel the first thing I said to Court is I have got to go the the Leather Archives Museum where there was a panel to discuss deaf and leather community. Boy am I so glad I went. I was impressed with the panel discussion and also with the Leather Archives Museum.
After that it was out to eat then to get ready for meet and greet. I really enjoyed meeting with and talking to a lot of people during the meet and greet. Jefferey Payne International Mr. Leather 2009 was a great MC that night. I was surprised when he shared that he himself has hearing loss.( I encourage you to check out his website and read his blogs. They are awesome.)
The next day was rehearsal for the show and of course for me that hardest part, interview with the judges. As hard as it was, I am so grateful for the experience that I had with the judges.
After that it was dinner and then the contest. It was fun and the MC Jose was great. I was proud to wear leather on stage and to be a part of the contest.
I want to thank all the people that helped us backstage and during rehearsal, Jose the MC, all 8 of the judges and to Philip Rubin. Thanks to all for making it possible for me to be IMRDL2009. I hope to do you All proud.
